Moira Clark

Moira Clark is a specialist pregnancy and postnatal exercise and Pilates instructor. She is a Register of Exercise Professionals level 3 Advanced Instructor in exercise and Pilates. Her qualifications include resistance training (machines, free weights and groups), outdoor fitness training, cardiovascular exercise (walking training and running), weight management, fitness assessment, circuits and fitness for the older adult; also The Pilates Institute Diploma in Pilates One-to-One and Matwork to Advanced level. Moira is also a qualified group and individual indoor rowing instructor with YMCA Fitness Industry Training and Concept 2.

Moira’s pregnancy and postnatal fitness training extends over 11 years, and includes qualifications with YMCA Fitness Industry Training, the Pilates Institute, the Guild of Pregnancy and Postnatal Exercise Instructors, The Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute, The Centre for Women’s Fitness (USA) and Fit to Deliver (Canada).

Moira is a member of the National Register of Personal Trainers, Fitpro, The Pilates Institute, The Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute, The Federation of Antenatal Educators and is an associate member of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Women’s Health. She was the Chair of The Guild of Pregnancy and Postnatal Exercise Instructors in 2008/2009 and, through Skills Active, is a contributor to National Occupational Standards for UK ante and postnatal exercise instructor training.

Moira has almost 20 years of experience of working with mothers and babies, and teaches classes specifically structured to meet the needs of pregnant women, and mothers after birth. She also teaches outdoor exercise classes for mothers pushing their babies in buggies and is qualified to teach Infant Massage.

Moira has wide specialist knowledge and experience in teaching women with pelvis, abdominal muscle and pelvic floor problems, including Pelvic Girdle Pain/Dysfunction, abdominal muscle separation, hernia and abdominal muscle surgery, hysterectomy, prolapse, continence problems and breast surgery She has written specialist articles for the Midwifery Information Research Digest, FitPro, MIMS Women’s Health (a specialist journals for GPs) and The National Association for Premenstrual Syndrome. She is regularly quoted in Mother and Baby Magazine and her advice appears on the NHS Direct patient information website.

Moira regularly runs workshops locally for women and health professionals on topics related to women’s health and the childbearing period. She is currently studying for the National Vocational Qualification at level 4 in the management and treatment of low back pain.

She is a keen walker, runner and indoor rower and ranks in the top sections of her age group in the international rowing rankings for 30 minutes, 5000, 6000 and 10.000 metre distances. Because her two sons are now aged 21 and 19 and very grown up, Moira’s domestic life revolves around her husband of 29 years, her miniature dachshund called Otto, and three cats.
